As an organization whose mission is predicated on combatting youth homelessness by addressing racism and systems of inequity, we cannot ignore the recent statements made by Los Angeles City Council members that reveal the entrenchment of racism and normalization of child abuse –

Racism should have no acceptable place, and to allow it safe harbor is to be implicated - we must demand better of those who represent us.

Our hearts go out to the Bonin & Arian family, and to our community who has been directly and indirectly impacted by these statements. Safe Place for Youth remains committed to continuing to take action to counteract systems of oppression.

Last year, Ty was one of 44 youth facing a “housing cliff” after aging out of foster care during the pandemic. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our community, SPY acted quickly to open an Emergency Shelter to ensure youth like Ty wouldn't become homeless on New Year's Day.
