One year ago, Russia brutally invaded Ukraine, bringing destruction, suffering, and death. In September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський 🇺🇦 called on the CGI community to take action, and I’m grateful to all who stepped up. Here's progress on some of the ongoing commitments:🧵

🔥 off the press, study by Shackelford finds that cumulative risk of death increases with every interval delay in handing off surgical casualties to a surgeon. There is nothing about this study that supports a stay-and-play model for prehospital care.

#OTD in 1972, Captain John W. Ripley, USMC, single-handedly halted an NVA offensive by destroying Dong Ha Bridge. Facing heavy enemy fire, he spent 3 hours swinging under the bridge to place 500 lbs of TNT. He received this "bill" from Hanoi for the cost to replace the bridge.

Our Dept. of Emergency Medicine provided medical direction at Gillette Stadium this past weekend. Through the lavender haze and pouring rain, our physicians and nurses gave bejeweled care to the 200,000 fearless #TaylorSwift fans who attended the concerts over several midnights.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many U.S. states deployed state capacity coordination centers to organize load balancing and facilitate equitable access to acute care during surges. Some SCCCs continue to operate today, whereas others intend to reactivate in future surges.
