Following Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV)'s reports, Hanoi authorities fined 3 restaurants 12.25M VND (~$471) for illegally advertising and keeping wild birds. ENV continues to coordinate with law enforcement and raise awareness to end wild bird consumption. 🦅🚫

🦅 Hai Phong | Jan 23, 2026 Police received a Crested serpent eagle caught in a chicken trap. With ENV’s support, it was transferred to the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center on Feb 10. Illegal hunting, possession, or trade of this species is prohibited.

🐢 Safe again! Feb 11, 2026: A Hanoi student reported a three-keeled pond turtle hooked in a residential lake. With ENV’s support, police confiscated and released the turtle, and warned the fisherman. One call made the difference.

Not yet free. A couple of bears are still waiting to be transferred to a sanctuary after nearly 30 years on bile farms. Across Vietnam, most bile bears were trafficked as cubs in the 1990s. Since 2005, ENV has worked with authorities and partners to phase out bear farming. 🐻

🐢Feb 24, 2026, with ENV’s support, authorities in Vinh Long Province received a Mekong snail-eating turtle had been reportedly purchased from a market stall for mercy release. While well-intentioned, buying wild animals can fuel illegal hunting, trading by creating more demand.

Illegal bird net removed in Can Tho Province. On Mar 3, 2026, Can Tho authorities responded to a ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline report and confiscated a bird net set in a field in Long My Ward. The net was destroyed to prevent further harm to wildlife.🕊️

🦎February 25, 2026 | with ENV’s support, a People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City received two green iguanas, that were reportedly crawling into a resident's workplace. In Vietnam, keeping this species is illegal without proper documentation proving its legal origin.

🐆On Mar 3, 2026, a resident contacted ENV’s Wildlife Crime Hotline to transfer a leopard cat reportedly bought from a vendor. Authorities later received and released the animal into the wild. ENV does not encourage buying wildlife to “rescue” them, as it can fuel illegal trade.

Feb 11, 2025: Acting on a citizen report via the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline, authorities in Lam Dong found 15 kg of illegal deer meat at a local restaurant in Da Lat. The restaurant was fined VND 3,750,000 (~USD 142) and ordered to remove all wildlife items from its menu.

Mar 10: Acting on a citizen report via the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline, rangers in Lam Dong Province confiscated two illegally kept pig-tailed macaques at a tourist site. Both were later released back into the forest. Thanks to the timely report, two monkeys are free again.🐒🌿

Recently, acting on a public report via the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City confiscated 10 Chinese stripe-necked turtles from a local temple. Notably, this is the 10th confiscation at this location following reports from the public.

Run free, Leopard Cat! 🐾 With support from ENV, a leopard cat in Dong Nai was voluntarily transferred after a report via the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline. Found caught in a trap at a chicken coop, it was later released back into the forest—right where it belongs. 🌿

Mar 7, 2026: With ENV's support, a foreign teacher in Hanoi voluntarily transferred 5 turtles after calling the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline. The turtles had reportedly been given to him by his students, and included a black pond turtle (CITES Appendix I) along with other species.

🐢🐒In March, ENV facilitated the return of several animals to the wild: 2 macaques in Gia Lai, a Snail-eating Turtle in Quang Nam, a Keeled Box Turtle in Nghe An, and a Leopard Cat in Dong Nai. With ENV's support, these animals are finally back in their true home—nature. 🌿✨
