The Building Code 2024 which underwent adequate legislation through Parliament will transform how construction is carried out by promoting innovation of new materials & technologies that will benefit the development of the construction sector,esp the affordable housing programme.

The new Building Code promotes economic & environmental sustainability through various provisions including energy efficiency,water conservation,sustainable material use & waste management. It encourages green building practices, resilient designs & the use of renewable energy.

Enforcement of the new Code which includes provisions for safety especially regarding storage & handling of hazardous materials like gas cylinders highlights the importance of adhering to these regulations key in the standardisation of our built environment & construction sector.

We will check how the old buildings can conform with the new code because transition takes abit of time to suit the comfort of the home user.Key aspects include understanding building codes,assessing structural integrity, and integrating modern technologies and design elements.

Construction sector is critical in the job creation among the workers esp in the Affordable Housing which is a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.The code is expected to drive demand for skilled professionals & personnel across the construction value chain

The 1968 Building Code was formulated under the now-repealed Local Government Act (Cap 265) while new framework is premised on multi-sectoral approach, signifying a collaborative effort across various government departments and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.

Professional Bodies like The Institution of Engineers of Kenya,Quantity Surveyors Chapter - KE,Architectural Association of Kenya,Law Society of Kenya are crucial in the implementation of the new Building Code 2024 through targeted awareness and training campaigns.We are working closely with these very important associations to actualise this milestone Hon. The National Building Code went through wide consultations putting into priority both local and international best practices to enhance the standards of construction, ensuring safety & efficiency in building practices aligning Kenya's construction standards with Vision 2030.

On Friday, 25th July 2025, NCA & Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration signed an MoU to boost collaboration in research, training & ADR in the construction sector. The pact will enhance capacity building for contractors, site supervisors & workers on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).^SO
