The reason we know “stupid white bastard” is not racist, is we all just wrote “stupid white bastard” and not one person was worried they might be thought to be racist. Let’s not overthink this.

Yes, lots of people are making official complaints—like this one—and I really encourage you all to do similar if you can. Whoever is behind this has caused damage not just to us, but to the credibility of the library, and any trust we might have once had in it as an institution.

I've withdrawn from the Artist-in-Residence event scheduled at the SLV this SAT. The ongoing silence & lack of clarity around the abrupt cancellation of writers in the Teen Bootcamp program is very disturbing, and not conducive to the kinds of freedoms required for creative work.

"Three sources working at the library with knowledge of the events have told this masthead the workshops were postponed because of the political views held by the writers." Well well well, who'd have thunk it. theage.com.au/culture/books/…

Pretty clear that State Library Vic management and leadership have partaken in discrimination and censorship with this sorry episode ... which means, our *public institution* is not a safe organisation for diverse creatives. Beware. #SpringSt.

something else i think that has fucked me off about this is that the implication here it seems is that they think teenagers are too delicate and fragile to deal with the genocide. newsflash, teens are on the internet and they know it's happening

Ngl I’m annoyed by everything being reduced to “pro-Palestine” or “anti-Israel.” This is not a team sport. I am pro-justice, anti-genocide. Pro-equality, anti-apartheid. Pro-indigenous rights, anti-colonisation. Pro-human rights, anti starving-children-to-death.

I love Call the Midwife. They just keep making episodes. I don’t know a single characters name. I can’t remember an any episode or plot point I’ve ever watched. There are 47 main characters, the cast has changed 12 times. It’s the best show I’ve ever seen.

1. Lately I have been paying more attention to the groups of my fellow Jews who are describing themselves as persecuted because of the global objections (by other Jews and the rest of the world) to the brutal slaughter in Gaza.

I spoke to SLV staff under condition of anonymity about the cancellation of engagements involving several writers for their pro-Palestinian writers, and the internal ripple effects of that decision. read now: independentaustralia.net/politics/polit…

As a child of a similar (kind of) cricket family who never really understood / went away from / has recently returned to cricket, loved this beautiful essay by Anwen Crawford in Sydney Review of Books sydneyreviewofbooks.com/essay/beautifu…
