🎉🎉Huge congratulations to the staff & pupils at Bedford Free School and Advantage Schools for this fantastic Ofsted report. A free school that fosters an environment where pupils can thrive academically and personally and where pupils flourish.

Bedford Free School Ofsted. The school has "taken effective action to maintain the standards". The previous standards were outstanding, so while we don't run our schools for Ofsted, I'm very proud of the staff, pupils and families. Congrats to Jane Herron & team.

Mark McCourt is absolutely brilliant. Only halfway through his session at #researchEDBournemouth (the sometimes sunny town!)

Mark McCourt Loved this write up! "When pupils practise until they cannot get it wrong, they are no longer at the mercy of mood, fatigue, or distraction. They own the knowledge."

Well put. A fantastic read. “To insist that all children can reach elite performance, given enough time and expert teaching, is deemed unrealistic. In reality, it is the only ethical position.”

Mark McCourt Remind me of what I once heard about musicians: an amateur is somebody who practises until they can get it right; a professional is somebody who practises until they can't get it wrong.

‘Schools should not aim for pupils to get things right. They should aim for pupils to not be able to get things wrong.’ I try to base my teaching on this principle, but too much material to cover often makes that a challenge. Another nail on head from Mark McCourt

This is a terrific summary of Mark McCourt rEDBournemouth presentation yesterday. It analyses learning in such a rigorous & practical way. Don't accept students' correct answers as endpoints, Mark urges, but, rather as openings.

‘Modern schooling is riddled with premature satisfaction. Too often, the benchmark for mastery is a single correct answer, offered once, with recency and cue, under ideal conditions, and swiftly forgotten.’ ⬇️
