How about some highlights from #CellBio2022 ? Valentina Stimac gave a FANTASTIC symposium talk this morning on her work with Iva Tolić describing how spindle elongation helps pivot polar chromosomes and recover them from the “danger zone” of missegregation.

Stoked for the cytoplasm subgroup, kicked off by Dr. Arthur Molines 🎮! Continues to blow my mind how anything at all can happen in the more crowded than a can of sardines cellular environment.

An elegant and compelling dispatch by Mary Elting Elting Lab highlighting the role of the augmin complex for the construction of mitotic spindle bridging fibers, which support accurate chromosome segregation. Thank you! Current Biology Cell Press cell.com/current-biolog…

#SpindleCroatia2023 continues to impress with amazing AFM movies from Radhika Subramanian resolving depolymerization of individual microtubule protofilaments!

Mary Elting Mary Williard Elting🔬🦠🧫 Elting Lab laser ablated spindles and nuclear envelopes in the yeast S. pombe, which has closed mitosis, and showed that the spindle can shape the nuclear envelope. The spindle and the nuclear envelope are a mechanical pair whose properties are well matched.

Exciting talk from Katya Grishchuk demonstrating a novel slow binding site ‘maturation’ that may help ensure the kinetochore forms in the right place rather than free in solution. Super beautiful work! #SpindleCroatia2023

This talk beautifully demonstrated another mechanism spindles can use to redundantly adapt to stress and ensure bipolarity. Will be interesting to see if this is Kif15 dependent!

Such clear and compelling translation of theory to its biological significance, helping us understand what regimes and parameters may be important for the spindle.
