If a child says something incorrectly, repeat it back the right way - without pointing out the mistake. Child: “Him goed to park.” Adult: “Yes, he went to the park.” That’s how they learn.

Supporting speech and language starts before a child speaks. Respond to their babble. Copy their sounds. Make eye contact. You're building connection.

Don’t ask too many questions. Too many questions can feel like a test. Comment on what your child is doing instead. “I see you’re building a big tower!”

Children with SLCN may find transitions hard. Use visual timetables, first/then language and countdowns. Preparation is support.

You don’t need fancy toys. Talk about what you’re doing during daily routines: Bath time, snack time, getting dressed. Real life is full of language.

Speech delays are not the same as language disorders. Delays often catch up. Disorders need structured support. Knowing the difference helps children thrive.
