I want more than just technique and beauty. I want to create a dialogue with the material - which I build up over many many hours of physically working with it. I want to intensify our wonder of nature and its complexity, find the essence of the material - reach the soul of it.

Creating to human scale - not only totemic works that relate to the scale of the whole body but forms like these which invite touch and beg to be held in the hand.

Our relative experience of time doesn’t follow a singular rhythmic pattern. ‘Time’ itself feels etched on species of wood such as Sequoia - where wood grows at a different density during different times of the year.

I first turn Column Vessels in sections on the lathe. They are jointed and then I sculpt using the shapes and voids in the wood to bring the piece together as one form.
