The butterfly companions are now helping RCHT Palliative & End of Life Care Team get beautiful homemade blankets made by the Friends of RCHT to the patients we visit. Rooms were brightened + families touched by today’s gifts 🌈🦋🧶

One of the RCHT Butterfly Companions was asked by a patient’s family how they might talk to their great grandchildren about the death of great grandad. Thanks Penhaligons Friends for brilliant prompt response to my request for resources to help equip us for future questions 🦋

The Butterfly Companions work closely with the brilliant RCHT Chaplaincy team. We regularly refer patients to each other and the chaplains are available to support volunteers who have encountered a difficult situation and want some extra support 🦋

This week the RCHT butterfly companions supported a patient + his partner by walking their dogs around the hospital grounds! And today Val and Penny had a lovely Pets As Therapy moment with Aggie before all 3 valued volunteers set off on their visits 🐾🦋 Anne Robson Trust

So sad I’ve spent the day of the Butterfly Companions Christmas party in my sick bed 😥. My fab ⁦RCHT Volunteers⁩ and ⁦RCHT Chaplaincy⁩ colleagues hosted brilliantly and we won the ⁦Anne Robson Trust⁩ countrywide quiz!! ⁦ The cards I made the volunteers 🦋🌲⬇️

Thank you RCHT Chaplaincy for creating this beautiful, simple way for visitors, staff and volunteers to remember loved ones no longer with us, or patients we hold in our hearts ♥️🦋. It was lovely singing as part of the scratch choir at today’s carols in the chapel too 🎵

I’ve learned a lot about brain cancer in the last four weeks including this shocking statistic. Grateful to those campaigning today. In our house we’re focused on recovery from surgery and awaiting an initial appointment with oncology. #LessSurvivableCancersAwarenessDay

The ⁦RCHT⁩ Butterfly Companions had a great team supervision yesterday, including an introduction to Jewish death practices from Jeremy of Kehillat Kernow. He showed us his prayer shawl & gave a great insight into the preferences a Jewish patient may have. 🦋

Great session with the RCHT acute physiotherapy medical rehab team yesterday, explaining the support that Butterfly Companions provide end of life patients + their families. Recruiting them as eyes + ears on the wards so together we can help more patients🧑‍🤝‍🧑 🦋 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Today RCHT staff + visitors can meet a Butterfly Companion in The Royal restaurant. As part of Dying Matters Week we’re promoting the support available to patients in their final days or hours of life.

As part of RCHT Volunteer Week celebrations, Trust Chief Executive Steve Williamson met Butterfly Companion Jean to learn more about the amazing work of an end-of-life companion volunteer. Our team are all supported by the expertise of Anne Robson Trust 🦋

A beautiful day to visit West Cornwall Hospital to begin planning for RCHT Butterfly Companion Volunteers to support patients who spend their final days in Penzance. Ward managers are keen to work with me to trial an ‘on call’ volunteer companion service 🦋📞
