Excl: Dozens of migrant cleaners at Harrods are preparing to strike over its "racially discriminatory" holiday policy affecting Black and Asian workers as the company celebrates its 175th anniversary, The Independent can reveal. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Suddenly, tales of the Home Office enforcement officers showing their faces in community group settings are coming my way - extolling the virtues of voluntary returns. Are people hearing the same?

Few employers get this. For some, ‘visiting family’ costs thousands of pounds per trip. And for them, taking a few days here and there isn’t going to deliver the kind of ‘family recuperation’ that employees whose families live a few hours’ drive away enjoy.

Very proud of my 'organisational child', Yumna. (Pls note she is a totally capable colleague - just much younger than me!) Solidarity with all women of colour who refuse to take no for an answer. Follow your North Star! x

I strongly disagree with these remarks. They are empirically incorrect, but also illustrate a terrible reactionary tendency among some environmentalists that must be rejected.

One of the geographical areas which saw an amazing level of migrant solidarity mobilisation during the Rwanda Crisis (aka Operation Vector) was West Midlands. Solidarity doesn’t end with the end of the Rwanda plan. Join their ‘After Rwanda’ event on 6 August!

Always learning something new from what my colleagues write for Right to Remain…. Do you know enough about what the immigrations rules are and how they are introduced? Find out here.

Amazon ‘flooded the warehouse with QRcodes – in every corridor, on every table in the canteen, even in all the toilet stalls. Scan the code on your phone and it generated an email that cancelled your union membership.’ At the Fulfilment Centre lrb.co.uk/blog/2024/july…

This woman is a hero. Standing up, alone, under direct physical attack in her own community by a far right lynch mob hopped up on disinformation and racism.

🧵 Up and down the country, people are starting to organise to resist threats of far-right violence, often on WhatsApp and will little thought of the potential for targeting by police surveillance. A thread on how to keep each other safe

Dark days? But glad to be working with a bunch of great people, who are serious about maintaining safety in our communities, with their clear-headed, no nonsense, hands-on approach. You know who you are.

Does imprisonment help people get rid of their racism? It might temporarily stop them committing racist acts (outside prisons), sure. Then what’s next?

Eiri Ohtani (@eiriohtani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Suspending immigration reporting requirements while people are too terrified to leave their home, because they fear far right racist violence, is an easy thing to do. Remember COVID lockdown time?

I say this again. If you want to support migration justice and solidarity work by donating money, SUPPORT local grassroots groups. And remember, such local grassroots groups do not have a platform to say this, and I’m happy to say this again and again and again.
