There's a clear class issue, here. Schools thinking that their primary function is to teach working class children compliance. It's reminiscent of the attitudes of 1870. Prepare children for a lifetime of servitude.

Good to see the No Child Left Behind team visiting the NE, the region with the most entrenched poverty in the country.

For Mayor Jamie Driscoll, tackling this has always been a priority. He has the track record to prove it.

Beauty is important for the soul. Colour, different shapes, art, plants, natural light, etc. This sparsity is because cognitive load theory is a current ed obsession and so nothing but the 'essentials'. At some point I'll write a blog about trends in school aesthetics...
