NEW - BC's deficit for this fiscal year projected by rise $1.1b, to $8.979b total, as the provincial economic situation worsens in Q1 update. BC NDP gov blames lower corporate tax revenue and wildfire costs.

If it holds, $9b would be the largest deficit in BC's history, by a very large margin. The previous record being a $5.5b deficit during COVID-19 in 2020/21.
