One of the best things about this event is getting out across the East and meeting the people who make the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service team work across our stations and wider communities. This includes Margaret, who ensures that Newburgh Fire Station in Fife is kept in a clean, tip top condition!

Special thanks to our colleagues in Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service who kindly lent us their Deputy Chief Officer for the week. DCO Stewart Nicholson was formerly the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Deputy Assistant Chief Officer for the East SDA and one of the original architects of this event.

Haddington at last! Most challenging day of the event so far, with the longest distance day to date and all achieved in non stop rain. As the saying goes - if it ain't raining it ain't training, and if it is raining, the wetter the better.

Day 5 and the rain is finally off and the sky looks a bit more friendly. Today will see us complete East Lothian and start the Borders leg - from Haddington to North Berwick, before heading South through East Linton, Dunbar, Eyemouth, Duns, Coldstream and finishing in Kelso.

In Cupar, we had the pleasure of being hosted by the family of our loved & much missed friend & colleague, Colin Speight. Margaret & Bill (Colin's parents) provided a lovely meal & we had the privilege of meeting his daughter, Caley. It is an honour to do this in his memory.

A great welcome at North Berwick and a much needed refreshment in Dunbar courtesy of our supporter Belhaven Brewery We're undecided on whether Garry's face enhances the pint or makes it less delicious than normal. What do you think?

After a mammoth number of miles, the mechanical issues are starting to inevitably rear their heads. Thankfully we have the support of ScotCycles to work their mechanical magic & get the fleet back on the road. Huge thank you to them for their skills & expertise to get us sorted

Tomorrow sees the team reach the most Southerly point of the East SDA - Newcastleton (the Copshie) sits just North of the border between Scotland and England. Psychologically tomorrow is massive - as each pedal thereafter takes us closer to Edinburgh and the finish line.

Regardless of how tough the hills get, they don't come close to the challenges faced by the people helped by Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide and Fire Fighters Charity It is these people that we are doing this challenge for. Please check out our pinned post and help us to reach our fundraising goal.

The penultimate day! It feels like Christmas Eve (if Santa was lycra clad, a bit sore, tired and fuelled by cake). Today sees the team go to Jedburgh, Newcastleton, Hawick, Selkirk, Galashiels and Lauder (where we have our next overnight stay).
