Rachel Reeves must step back from austerity and urgently fund the fire service. Across the country, stations are closing, firefighter roles are being axed and fire engines are off the run. The FBU are demanding real change in this Autumn budget.

When workers are divided, we all lose. It's time to unite. Today, we're joining the Together Alliance. Join us on 28 March in London for a message of hope over fear. Firefighters know all about duty. It’s our duty now to take a stand.

As I understand it, Essex Fire Service has already been found wanting when it comes to the rest periods under Working Time Directive by HMICFRS so proposing to prop up RDS stations with wholetime firefighters can only mean more over time and further WTD breaches gazette-news.co.uk/news/25716642.…

2026 will be the year the FBU fights these cuts. In Oxfordshire and in every brigade facing the same threat, whether it’s shifts, jobs or stations - we will stand up and organise. After years of cuts and damage to the fire and rescue service, enough is enough. We will take

.BBC Beds, Herts & Bucks BBC East The Luton News Today even I was surprised. The public consultation on council tax rises went out for Beds Fire. 🧵 They’ve raised taxes like clockwork for 15 years, plus, to “maintain the same service” whilst every year getting less:

The FBU is demanding that Scotland's finance secretary, Shona Robison MSP (Dundee City East Constituency), deliver significant investment in the Scottish fire service, including 200 new firefighter posts. Since 2013, SFRS has seen £84m in real-term cuts - compromising public and firefighter safety.

FBU general secretary Steve Wright tells LabourList the FBU is preparing for the prospect of industrial action. The fire service is facing yet more austerity. When you cut firefighters, fire engines and stations, public safety is compromised. Cuts kill. Let's prevent it.

The Scottish government's latest budget has failed to deliver for firefighters and communities. Since 2013, 1250 firefighter posts have been axed. Stations across Scotland are crumbling, and many are without toilets or running water. FBU general secretary Steve Wright responds:

The FBU is drawing a line in the sand. No more fake ‘consultations’. No more being ignored by politicians. No more cuts to our safety, jobs, shifts, conditions. We are preparing a UK-wide campaign, including industrial action. If you're in the FBU, be there on 11th February.

Over 500 firefighters and residents have signed the petition calling for Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority to stop plans for cuts. Proposals to remove seven fire engines and close two stations will increase response times and put public safety at risk.

🚨 The fire service is in crisis after years of underfunding. Further cuts threaten services in Oxfordshire, Scotland, Dorset and Wiltshire, and Buckinghamshire. FBU members have had enough with sham consultations while firefighter jobs are axed and safety is compromised.

In a budget report by Beds Fire, they stated: “37% of respondents supported the increase, with therefore 63% not supporting it”, so they increased it anyway. Make of that framing what you will. Like clockwork, every year - taxes go up & cuts are still imposed BBC East BBC Beds, Herts & Bucks

The FBU is backing the National Housing Demo. For too long, governments have prioritised private developers and landlords' profits over the public's need for affordable and safe housing. We’ll be in central London on 18 April to demand that the government takes action.
