Tony (lawyer): What woman could have any defence against this unscrupulous philanderer? Why did he deceive these poor innocent creatures? Why did he lead eight blushing brides to the alter? The evidence is unshakable: he wanted to get his hands on their premium bonds!

#OTD in 1985 the BFI #NationalFilmTheatre seven day #TonyHancock season started, showing some of his finest work & a memorable evening with #RayGalton & #AlanSimpson (I was lucky enough to be there). Also pictured is a touching article by #PhilipOakes in the #Grauniad 21/09/85.

Birds have no right to be in towns. Why don't they stay in the country where they belong? Wait til they perch on my aerial with a lump of my bread in their mouth. I'll shove a few hundred volts through it, that'll make their feet tingle! #TheRadioHam

Bill: I don’t go around bragging about my war wounds. Andree:  But you told me you were in the Cookhouse? Bill:  We had more casualties there than any branch of the Australian Army! #AVisitToSwansea

I can't pass the test! I've been up 73 times and they keep failing me. I just can't get the hang of it. Me feet are too big, that's the trouble. They overlap. I put my foot on the brake, half of it goes on the accelerator as well, and we're off again! #HancocksCar
