Puerto Rican baseball player Roberto Clemente Walker came to the U.S. to play in 1954. He spent his career as a right fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clemente faced racial bias in the U.S., leading him to become an advocate for Latino and Black players’ rights in baseball.

Venezuelan- and Puerto Rican-American Sylvia Rivera was an LGBTQ rights pioneer. The Sylvia Rivera Law Project provides legal representation and support to all those in the trans, non-binary, and non-gender conforming communities & was established in 2002 shortly after her death.

El Salvador is known as the Land of Volcanoes because it's more than 100 volcanos. About twenty of them are possibly active. Santa Ana is the highest volcano in El Salvador standing at 2,831 metres.

Sonia Sotomayor became a U.S. District Court Judge in 1992 and was elevated to the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1998. In 2009, she was confirmed as the first Latina Supreme Court justice in U.S. history.

Isabel Allende, born August 2, 1942 in Lima, Peru is a Chilean American writer in the magic realist tradition who is considered one of the first successful women novelists from Latin America.

Latin dancing is one of the liveliest and enthusiastic type of dancing in the world. It plays a major role in Latin American culture, mainly because Latin dancing exists not only as a form of entertainment, but as a metaphor for social unity and identity.

Today East Wake iTech and Design Magnet High School our Media Center Specialist,Mr. Howell and Ms. Frazier hosted Code and Go for our students. There was 100% engagement and participation.

On Saturday, 11/18/23, we hosted our first Chess Club tournament at Wendell Community Library! Thank you for everyone who came and congrats Danny, Carlos, and Jonas!
