At Lochgilphead Front Green, large landmark signage, in English and in Gaelic announce Lochgilphead to the A83 to encourage visitors to stop, rest, & take in the views, thus increasing footfall in the town and supporting local businesses.

At Lochgilphead Front Green, the square is surfaced with locally quarried ‘Greenstone’, which is unique to the area, evident in historic buildings in Lochgilphead and Inveraray.

The colour of the Greenstone square compliments the changing colours of the water & sky of Loch Gilp.

The Lochgilphead Front Green is focused on simple, clean lines & edges, whilst a raised level to reduce flood risk creates a new constructed waterfront. Levels were carefully considered to make the edge comfortably sittable
& to create an ‘infinity’ edge to views down Loch Gilp.

We are going to be sharing a series of posts focusing on the new Lochgilphead Frint Green, designed by erz, and winner of the Scottish Design Awards awards landscape category!

This project has worked to reinstate the historical public square as a hub for public life in Lochgilphead.

Congrats to our co-director Felicity has completed the Building With Nature Assessor training and is now part of a national network of BwN approved assessors.

This means that erz is now able to provide BwN assessment to meet the BwN Standards Framework for green infrastructure.

When working for the David Livingstone Birthplace we had access remarkable archives including notebooks of his time exploring Africa . These bees & monkeys, made from laser-cut Corten Steel are reworks of Livingstone’s own drawings, sketched over the landscape of his childhood.

Kevin paid a visit to The David Livingstone Centre recently, one of our past project sites. It’s nice to see the site doing well, and the wild playground looking extra wild!

Drongan Nursery has been invaded by giant snails! These snails were made by Timberplay Scotland alongs side this snail drawing for a special panel in the fence, drawn by Kevin’s son Campbell, our newest intern, aged 5. 🐌 🐌

Springburn Walking route is a secret trail created for the local school children at Elmvale Primary School with erz and artist Alys Owen who created a series of bronze animals which hide along the path. The animals were sculpted by the children and cast in bronze.
