Today we visited Longmoor Primary School in Long Eaton to talk to their year 6s about careers on the railways. They got hands on with a dispatchers baton, donned hi-viz and were introduced to how all sorts of different roles contribute to the safe operation of our railways!

Newark Brake Trials took place 150 years ago today! Our station adopters wanted to mark the occasion so we took pupils from Bleasby & Burton Joyce schools to the ASI (Newark) to become Engineers for the day, making & testing their own locos with brakes! Community Rail Network

Excited Y1 children from Goxhill primary school on a field trip to Cleethorpes, enjoyed a train ride and a walk along the sea front, to identify human and physical features – including the railway station and its location.

30 excited school children from Sir Edmond Academy Tried the Train from Worksop to Creswell and then onto Creswell Crags Rail Discovery Trail. Their favourite part of the trip was ' going on train, Creswell Crags museum, walk to Creswell Crags'.

We sponsor an Railway Heritage Awd for projects in receipt of one of our grants. Last year the Award was won by Market Rasen for a project delivered by Colt Construction, funded mainly by @NetworkRail Eastern Region and with an £18k grant from us. Today we unveiled the award plaque.

We were ably hosted by the Station Adoption Group who do a fantastic job keeping the station bright and tidy, and by the Station Building Heritage Day Centre who provided refreshments. The whole place is a great example of heritage and community rail at its best.

We’ve been working with Kesteven and Sleaford High School today, talking about stations of the future & our work transforming Boston & Skegness through the Towns Deal Fund. The students created their own stations & our winners are Choo Choo Chappis Connected Coast thanks to Poacher Line CRP for the goodies!

Getting their Greener strategy coming to life at East Midlands Parkway today. We joined forces with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust & staff from East Midlands Airport to make the station green space more wildlife friendly, building rock trenches, bird boxes , scarifying land & sowing wild seeds! 🪻🌼🐍
