Some of the top billing Drs are anti safe supply. And the doctors and nurse practitioner’s who are prescribing safer supply generally work in salaried positions with no billing incentives. They also do primary care which the anti safe supply drs don’t do despite being family DRs

Co-location provides for easy access to medical care – access to family doctors & nurse practitioners who are already in the building. An SCS is just a room inside a building – many people in a city like Toronto have likely walked right by one and never noticed it was there

In #Ontario, Premier Doug Ford plans to close safe consumption sites for drugs he and his supporters disapprove of, while opening safe consumption sites in 7-Elevens across the province that are profitable to his friends. 🤔 Doug Ford #FordFailedOntario

Very important point: overdose death rates in Northern Ontario are double rates in Southern Ontario. Sites in Timmins & Sudbury were forced to close because the Ford govt refused to fund them. Now the only site left in Northern Ontario - in Thunder Bay - is being forced to close.

In CBC Ottawa, RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun 🇨🇦 RN, PhD, FAAN, O.ONT says the Ontario government's closure of supervised consumption sites "is actually a death sentence for people that use substances. It's a disaster." #HarmReductionSavesLives #onpoli Read the full story by Arthur White-Crummey:

There were 3 reviews done about CTS in Ontario that were released yesterday and not one of them says that sites should close. What is the purpose of spending time, energy and money on these if government is not going to listen to the outcomes of these reviews or even evidence?

My comments from today: i’ll never forget the first person i found unconscious: lips blue, slumped over. the first person who died after i did CPR but it was too late. the first time i called to tell a mom their son was gone and the wail on the other end of the phone. [1/]

We have NEVER had enough treatment services to meet the need during the last 6 years of Conservatives in power in Ontario. Pretending that 20 beds is going to be enough as they force the closure of sites that save thousands from overdose is incompetent and totally reprehensible.

This needs to be investigated like every other scandal with this government. We need to investigate Ford’s relationships, which strategists, lobbyists and consultants are involved in this scandal. Regardless of how you morally “feel”, several reports were written reviewing SCS

Can confirm. It’s nearly impossible to get help from other government funded services. Like instead of shutting down CTS the gov should focus on all the pieces they’ve neglected in their own backyard??? Cause CTS…we’ve been doing OUR job.

We are in an EMERGENCY. 1 person dies every 2.5 hours in Ontario. Closing SCS will be deadly. People will be overdosing outside more and in public places, at home etc. We need people to get trained to save lives and help save the sites.

First off we already have involuntary treatment. We have people forced in to treatment through the courts, CPS, employers, mental health act, diversion, every day. It doesn’t solve housing, it doesn’t solve poverty and it certainly isn’t effective. It’s harmful.

Zoë Dodd (@zoedodd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Anyone proposing involuntary treatment as a “solution” to homelessness is not serious. I’d also follow the money…
