Special thanks to a special woman!

This week marks the end of the 5-year mandate of Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights – Dunja Mijatovic. We, at ECPMF, would like to extend our heartfelt recognition and thanks to her for her work on human rights, rule of law and democracy ⬇️

Particularly, her commitment, dedication and passion to address #MediaFreedom and freedom of expression will always be remembered and will guide us in the coming years. She is an example of how public officials should be: dedicated, courageous, passionate and hardworking.

We have collaborated very closely with Dunja Mijatovic on many occasions and the range of topics she has covered is very long, but we would like to mention two instances.

🇲🇹 Fighting for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia: Dunja Mijatovic has supported the family and civil society since Daphne was brutally killed in the fight for justice. Her regular visits to Malta, calls for a public inquiry and justice helped to achieve progress in the case.

⚖️ Anti-SLAPP work: Dunja Mijatovic was among the first persons within Council of Europe to call for action against SLAPPs. She never hesitated to publicly support targets and victims of #SLAPPs , wrote articles and encouraged Member States to address SLAPPs every time she had an opportunity.

We hope her call for action and the work of many at the CoE will soon result in a CoE recommendation on Anti-SLAPP, a strong and long-lasting instrument that will help journalists and activists.
