It is hoped some day we get to the point of working with facilities to get them fair pay for the owners and the staff. And it is also hoped that we get to the point that they can be proud of the good care they give for those that need to reside in their facilities.

However, many attitudes need to change. It’s not about what can be hidden or gotten away with, it’s not about profits over care. It’s not about who wins or who has control. It’s not about “them”, it’s about our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles

and other close family and friends. It’s about most of us one day. It cannot be that we take away the value of someone because of aging or where they live. Our elders are volumes of knowledge that we will not have until we get there, however they love to share what

however they love to share what they know with us now. Their life stories are amazing to hear and better than anything on television. We come into this world with nothing, and we will leave with nothing. So, if it is profits over care, it will mean nothing in the end.

We are talking about human lives that matter just as much as anyone else, it is not a corporate choice, it’s personal choices we will all live with in how we treat others. When we leave, hopefully we will leave our good footprints here long after we are gone. (from our newsletter

If nursing homes continue to say they don't make money, and how non profitable all these chains they keep buying, shouldn't we give them a chance to show us that in their records? They won't.

Advocates must push for the "Big Four"....Oversight, Enforcement, Accountability & Transparency! Can we repeat this as much as the same stories of abuse and neglect? #endnursinghomeneglect #restorehumanrights

For anyone who wants to go through this life making money by profits over care, we want you to remember...there is no richest guy in the cemetery! #whatwillmatterintheend #inhumanecareformoney

We have seen if you advocate without fear of Seeing Something, Saying Something, Doing Something, you won't have to tag the industry. They will follow you incognito. They worry about their playbook being broke down to myths and truths@ApronsUnite @LTCconsumer@Honet334@AlexSpanko

All of the things we know are wrong, will not change until we unite in getting the message across there must be oversight and enforcement. ahhh just got notice on Ohio General Assembly HB 461, short title, "Provide federal covid funds to nursing facilities." Even with receiving Covid funding, they give the impression they are not better off with the money, so why give it to them?

Elderly Advocates (@eashortname) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We have seen advocates for decades, decades, trying to get acceptable care, but care seems to get even worse. We will sound like a broken record until all advocates demand OVERSIGHT and ENFORCEMENT at the state level where the ball drops. Many are not happy with all state DOH'S.

Pictures are worth 1,000 words. So, how do we get their attention when those in power haven't cared or taken action for decades? Maybe we need more rallies at the statehouse with many people, signs, and media? Help Wanted! What motivates us? Another mother lost last week with neglect and poor care provided in last months and days. When our families don't die in horrific ways anymore, we won't have as much to say as often! But, it happens as a norm right now. This norm has to stop. Now.

This takes two tweets. Family calls 98 y/o has bellyache. Of course, covid rapid test. Negative. The next day no bellyache, facility decides they want to do a PCR Test. Moves her out of her single room into covid unit. Continued next tweet

Elderly Advocates (@eashortname) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Continued .Local Ombudsman could not get her out of this unit and back to her single room while waiting on PCR even though she tested negative rapid test, no symptoms, and single room. If this cannot be resolved fast, we are in trouble! Neg PCR @LTCOmbudsOH@OhioDeptOfAging

On the bright side of what works...Daughter took her mom out of private pay memory ALF, moved her to a group home with about 14 residents that was recommended by hospice. Now she is thriving to the best of her ability, care is good. Daughter very happy she learned options.
