On 5 May, the Kingdom of the Netherlands celebrates Liberation Day. This year we mark 80 years of freedom since the end of WWII. At a time when peace and security cannot be taken for granted, we reflect on the value of freedom and the importance of working together to uphold it.

Alongside fellow EU Member States, the Netherlands condemns the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Crucial that both parties now work on de-escalation to prevent the loss of more innocent lives. I have contacted both ministers to urge for restraint.

Russia's illegal war against Ukrainians cannot go unpunished. In Lviv, representatives from Ukraine, Europe and the Core Group took the first step towards establishing a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression by Russia. The Netherlands is the prospective host country.
