On 5 May, the Kingdom of the Netherlands celebrates Liberation Day. This year we mark 80 years of freedom since the end of WWII. At a time when peace and security cannot be taken for granted, we reflect on the value of freedom and the importance of working together to uphold it.

Alongside fellow EU Member States, the Netherlands condemns the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Crucial that both parties now work on de-escalation to prevent the loss of more innocent lives. I have contacted both ministers to urge for restraint.

Russia's illegal war against Ukrainians cannot go unpunished. In Lviv, representatives from Ukraine, Europe and the Core Group took the first step towards establishing a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression by Russia. The Netherlands is the prospective host country.

The ICAO Council has concluded that the Russian Federation is responsible for the downing of Flight #MH17. I am pleased with this decision, first and foremost because of what it means for the next of kin of the victims of the downing of Flight MH17. government.nl/latest/news/20… 1/2

We stand with our international partners in the face of malign Russian interference. The individuals who were just sentenced in the UK were undermining the safety and security of Europe, on behalf of the Russian state. Together, we increase our resilience against this threat.

In the run-up to #IDAHOBIT, I proudly raised the Progress flag in The Hague. Important to mark this occasion, as LGBTIQ+ persons still face discrimination and violence. The Netherlands works with others to foster change. 1/2

The decision by Prime Minister Netanyahu to allow limited aid into Gaza is inadequate and insufficient. Massive amounts of humanitarian aid are urgently needed to alleviate the catastrophic situation in Gaza, ending food shortages and human suffering. 1/2

The Netherlands, together with the UK, Germany, France and 15 other countries, calls on Israel to allow immediate, unhindered and unconditional humanitarian access by the UN and other aid organisations to the Gaza Strip. Life-saving assistance must never be politicised. 1/3

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic. There is an urgent need for massive aid to relieve the suffering. It is good that the EU sent a strong signal to Israel today to lift the humanitarian blockade fully and as soon as possible. 1/3

The critical situation in the Middle East and ongoing developments underline the importance of working towards a two-state solution. Therefore Morocco and the Netherlands co-hosted a meeting in #Rabat today on this crucial topic. I thank Morocco for this joint initiative. 1/3

IDF soldiers have fired shots close by a diplomatic delegation, that included a Dutch diplomat, near Jenin in the West Bank. Diplomats should be able to do their work and threatening them is unacceptable. 1/2

Karina protested peacefully. Dzmitry made a donation. Ales championed human rights. Just three names among the more than 1,200 political prisoners in Belarus. Today, we reaffirm our solidarity with the many brave Belarusians who pursue freedom and justice. #StandWithBelarus

Shocking news that two Israeli Embassy staff were killed in Washington DC. I condemn this antisemitic attack in the strongest possible terms and support US investigative efforts. Violence and hate can never be justified. Our thoughts are with their families and colleagues.

My visit to Japan has come to an end. Until October, @Expo2025Japan continues to be the podium for Dutch business who are looking to invest here. There are many opportunities here in Japan, more trade delegations are headed this way & I am confident we will achieve great results!
