New PLAD data on leader birthregions, ethnicity, gender, education (1989-2023): plad.me

We use our Political Leaders' Affiliation Database to test whether sub-national regions where leaders’ spouses are born receive more foreign aid. We find they do.

The birthplaces of spouses of political leaders receive more than three times as much aid during the tenure of their partners.
