We mourn the tragic loss of our dear friend and colleague. A selfless leader and humanitarian. We will miss him dearly. Wishing his family strength at this difficult time. Rest in Peace dear Aidan.

Good to see the strong cross-border collaboration between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Synchronised campaigns and joint actions on #polio surveillance are critical ingredients for success as the virus does not respect borders.

Pleased to see the commitment of Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population towards the second round of nOPV2 campaign conducted recently. Over 1.3m under-fives in 12 of Yemen’s governorates are building their immunity against #polio.

Earlier this year I wrote about how EPI and efforts to #endpolio show what is #humanlypossible through collaboration. Investments in polio infrastructure promise not only a polio-free future, but stronger and resilient EPI programmes for a #healthierfuture

Around 2.7k health workers will take part in the polio vaccination campaign planned in #Gaza. We urge parties to the conflict to implement humanitarian pauses so children receive #polio drops. This is the only way to ensure public health security in the Gaza Strip and the region.

Repeatedly, we have seen polio thrive in places hit by conflict and instability. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus details the heroic efforts underway to reach children in Gaza with life-saving vaccines, but a ceasefire is the only definite way to protect children and #EndPolio bit.ly/4dibqIi

Thank you, Ms Maryan Jama Du’ale for your tireless efforts for polio eradication in Somalia. Your story is one of inspiration, resilience and hope for #polio eradicators across the Region. #WorldHumanitarianDay emro.who.int/somalia/news/2…

I reiterate RD HananBalkhyحنان بلخي's calls for urgent, coordinated efforts to prevent an escalating polio crisis and to ensure we interrupt the spread of #polio in Gaza. Even one child paralyzed is one too many.

Tomorrow, health workers in #Gaza will kick off a polio vaccination campaign to protect 640k children from polio. Gaza’s first polio case in 25 years is a stark reminder that all parties must adhere to humanitarian pauses to #EndPolio.

Our sincere thanks goes to @MohamedbinZayed for the critical support of US$5m provided to the polio response in #Gaza. These efforts aim at stopping the polio outbreak in Gaza and its spread in the region and globally. bit.ly/3X038hW Reaching the Last Mile

WHO has trained 2180 health workers to deliver oral polio vaccines to children in #Gaza in the campaign that starts today. It’s our collective responsibility to protect health workers while they in turn protect Gaza’s children from polio.

As the #polio campaign in #Gaza starts today, here are the health facilities in central Gaza that will provide vaccines during the first phase of the campaign.

I take my hat off to the admirable health workers in #Gaza – and in every context in the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region – who strive to shield children from the effects of polio. Let's keep them safe. #VaccinesWork to #EndPolio

This is how the day starts for health workers in #Gaza this week- preparing for the day, to vaccinate as many children as they can against polio.

Last month, Sudan's health workers braved the rains and floods, in addition to an already complex context, with the aim of safeguarding 1.9m + children in five accessible states from #polio. I'm filled with awe at their resilience.

Health workers in central Gaza vaccinated an estimated 161k children in the first two days of the ongoing #polio campaign, well over our estimated target of 157k children. Very encouraging to see Gaza's children being protected from the unforgiving effects of polio. #EndPolio

With 187k+ children vaccinated & missed children covered yesterday, phase 1 of a polio campaign in central Gaza concluded without incident. Phase 2 starts today in southern Gaza. Incredibly proud of Gaza's health workers for achieving this remarkable feat. bit.ly/4cTKVsl
