1/🚨New developments re TAVIgate🚨

Before I share this, I emphasise that this is not a personal attack

It’s necessary to hold Trusts to the same standards that are expected of us, FOR BOTH doctors and patients

I have it on good authority that the ANP in question…

2/ …Is not an ANP at all.

Doesn’t have a masters in advanced practice.

Reportedly, this was a band 7 nurse, for whom (due to some favouritism) a special job role was magically created, titled:

‘Senior Cardiology Structural Procedure Care Practitioner’. See pic above.

3/ Additionally, if you search the nurse on NMC register, no addition qualifications logged either.

What does this mean?

Would an unrelated masters degree make someone more qualified to do a TAVI?

In one sense it’s a sigh of relief - maybe ANP scope hasn’t yet creeped…

4/ …so much as to be in the dire situation of the NHS providing ANP-led TAVIs

In another sense it’s extremely worrying.

Trusts have gone so rogue - undoubtedly emboldened by the ambiguous ‘Practitioner’ movement - so as to slap a fancy title on a nurse and allow them to…

5/ …be first operator for TAVIs, bypassing all the apparently necessary training for doctors to do the same.

Cardiology docs across the globe were shocked that an ANP was allowed to perform this highly specialised procedure - the complications of which can be life-terminating

6/ The British Cardiovascular Society have released a statement to TCTMD.

They show support to ‘all cardiovascular healthcare workers’ provided they are ‘fully trained’.

The president elect of BCS works in the same department that this occurred.
