To purge the soul of America of its original sin of slavery, we must not only acknowledge the perpetual nature of our transgressions as we do today, Juneteenth, but resolve in this moment to actively strike out against systemic racism in the form of disparities in health care.

Yesterday, I visited the night shift in the Peds Cardiac Surgery ICU to congratulate them on 400 days w/o a BSI. They care for fragile newborns with competence and compassion. This is why our Peds Cardiac Surgery results are exceptional. Perfect is possible at Duke Health.

This is our son at age 6. He asked me for a moment to himself after sending his dad off on his third deployment in four years. He wore his matching shirt with the #USNSComfort on it. #RespectVets VoteVets

Provocative and profound . It prompts another question for those of us with privilege. How much of what I have am I willing to give to a person who has been denied basic human rights? Only by giving can we begin to repair our souls and our society.
