A humbling, powerful moment today taking a knee with my NewYork-Presbyterian colleagues. 9 minutes for Mr. Floyd and so many others. Hundreds and hundreds took part across our enterprise. We are united, we will act. #BlackLivesMatter

To purge the soul of America of its original sin of slavery, we must not only acknowledge the perpetual nature of our transgressions as we do today, Juneteenth, but resolve in this moment to actively strike out against systemic racism in the form of disparities in health care.

Yesterday, I visited the night shift in the Peds Cardiac Surgery ICU to congratulate them on 400 days w/o a BSI. They care for fragile newborns with competence and compassion. This is why our Peds Cardiac Surgery results are exceptional. Perfect is possible at Duke Health.

This is our son at age 6. He asked me for a moment to himself after sending his dad off on his third deployment in four years. He wore his matching shirt with the #USNSComfort on it. #RespectVets VoteVets

Provocative and profound . It prompts another question for those of us with privilege. How much of what I have am I willing to give to a person who has been denied basic human rights? Only by giving can we begin to repair our souls and our society.

Bert O’Malley will be a spectacular leader for U Maryland. Under great tutelage at Penn, he has emerged as a visionary in the era of value.Bert was always ahead of his time but his time has now come. The appointment is a tribute to him and to his Penn mentors. Bravo friend!!

My kids keep asking me why I repeat myself when I lecture them about things? Well, because the first time only neurons get activated... and then one repeat for each glia to activate them too... for the message to be firmly consolidated 😉

Congratulations to my colleague who has served faithfully and with great distinction at UVA. George Rich was always thoughtful and showed great equanimity in times of turmoil. Best wishes

Yet another first for Duke Heart service line after doing the first donor after cardiac death heart transplant in December. Setting new standards. When choosing your health care, think DUKE FIRST!!!

My paintings: The last 5% takes 90% of the time and I change things that only I might notice but if left unchanged would drive me crazy Eventually I have to tell myself that if I overwork it it loses its “painterly” quality & to stop being a photographer be a painter #cmgsays
