My article on male rape survivors is out with History Workshop Journal! Written when I was at Sexual Harms + Medical Encounters it explores the change to male rape legislation and asks what this tells us about trauma and masculinity. It’s open access thanks to Geneva Graduate Institute Library! academic.oup.com/hwj/advance-ar…

Calling all ECRs: could you be lucky 19?

Applications are open for the 19th annual Sociological Review Fellowship. Via a one-year funded post at Keele University, a recent PhD will receive support to turn doctoral research into a book-length publication. buff.ly/4aRpVSv

Tens of millions of Americans now live in states that are locked out of essential reproductive healthcare for women.

It is an absurdity, it is an abomination, and it shouldn’t be allowed to stand.

Just putting this out there to see something

Do you think there would be any interest in a taught interdisciplinary MA programme (UK) on ‘Gender Violence’ w emphasis on feminist theory, creative methods, law, policy, & social change?

I’ve been told no-one would be interested.

Oh god, the tedium of male academics who never mention or cite or bother to read the intellectual work of women. 🙄

*Deep breath*... Since it's Professors' role to lead, this week I've written about the vexed topic of academic mental health (and my own mental health) for Voices of Academia. The gloom through which the sector is trudging is palpable: voicesofacademia.com/2024/04/05/its…

A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. “We were surprised by how brazenly the male researchers described their priorities, for example that they actively didn’t respond to emails”

The trauma, costs, & extra (unseen) labour of Schengen visa applications for Global South scholars located in the UK. My goodness. Not worth it, imo, I will be curtailing my travel going forward & sticking to places (eg Ireland) that don’t require visas. 😬

I won’t be able to present at because my US visa appt is in 2026. How many academics from the global south are forced to wait, prevented from accessing these spaces? Immobility helps define those who speak their voices in academia and those whose voices are spoken for.
