Yes, I love the seafloor of the open ocean. But all sediments are fascinating, truly. Today, we had a glorious day sampling water and sediment in the Port of Rotterdam. Collecting sediments at 10 m water depth is quick! Apologies to the worms...

Wires and tubes. Looks messy, but giving us very useful info on fluxes between sediment and water for gases and solutes. Thanks NIOZ workshop! Meanwhile, that worm is owning the sediment-water interface. Show-off.

In the marine part of the Port of Rotterdam:no worms but now bivalves rearranging the sediment like they own the place. The nerve!

Sea-going research. Most people will just see the plots and words in the resulting articles. But it starts with endless packing lists and a hallway filled with stuff. You forget, you're screwed. In August, we'll sail to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge for our #I_NANO cruise! Hooray!

In an impressive feat, the crew of RV Pelagia just managed to hang our video-equipped CTD directly above a diffuse venting spot the size of snooker table, at 800m depth, with currents... Amazing. Can't wait to analyze the samples. #I_NANO #whoneedsarov
