(Once again, I’m wading into board elections - I must either be a glutton for punishment or a good netizen - your call!)

It’s Global Peering Forum board election time - nominations are presently open! Nominees must be current GPF members in good standing.

The PeeringDB election results are in. 98 orgs voted out of 137. A good ratio. Well done democracy. Congrats to Job & Aaron. Final thought: “Democracy is like blowing your nose. You may not do it well, but it's something you ought to do yourself.” — G.K. Chesterton

So what do we think about private collectors? In this case it’s Cisco ThousandEyes and Code BGP (both Cisco companies) doing the collection and augmenting RIPE RIS and routeviews. As for me, I hope they publish lots and lots of unique data. medium.com/thousandeyes-e…

Oh no, I’ve been blocked by a PeeringDB board member (@JobSnijders) who clearly doesn’t like being called-out on something as simple as “hey, you should tweet once in a while about the upcoming elections”. Clearly I won’t be voting for him in the present board election cycle!

Disappointing to see getting blamed for the Facebook outage in this BBC News (World) story.

BGP worked just fine. It was Facebook’s automation software that caused FB to withdraw routes, including those hosting their authoritative DNS.

INTERESTING: neither PeeringDB, Chris Caputo Chris Caputo - Secretary/Treasurer, or any board member have been tweeting about board elections and deadlines. So I’ll do it for them!

Latest email: “So far 50 of 126 registered voters have voted. The election ends April 29th 23:59 UTC”

Well it all happened in Athens, Greece yesterday. Some folks there (Antonios Chariton & Pim van Pelt) announced Greece which has 10/25/100G ports with “no recurring cost”. Both Thessaloniki & Athens locations. free-ix.gr

I just threw this together for an ARIN IP address allocation policy conversation regarding the IP (v4, v6 aren't a problem) address blocks needed by Internet exchange points. The issue is that all IXPs start small, and it's hard for people who are trying to get three ISPs to…
