I think often of the last few lines from this Gwendolyn Brooks poem about singer Paul Robeson: That we are each other's harvest: we are each other's business: we are each other's magnitude and bond.

Gender-inclusive teaching belongs in science classrooms. So how do we respond when members of the school community hesitate or object? We assembled a table of common objections and helpful responses. buff.ly/3LDiCRR

A Gallup survey asked 12-18 y.o. students to think about the best middle or high school teacher they’ve ever had. The most popular teacher attribute was “they cared about you as a person” (73%) while “they helped you learn something difficult” was near the bottom at 46 percent.

To the teachers who’ve been in schools for a few weeks & those just beginning, you got this. You’re some of the most prized and important people out there. Thank you for your nation-building work. We’d be nothing without teachers.

MAYBE IF I SAY/SCREAM/TWEET/CRY THAT A 14 YEAR OLD MURDERED 4 PEOPLE AND INJURED 9 OTHER PEOPLE IN A SCHOOL TODAY PEOPLE WILL SEE THAT THOSE WORDS SHOULDN’T MAKE SENSE TOGETHER

It’s hard to be a teacher today after the news from yesterday But it’s harder still to be a student. So we’ll go do the best we can today. For them

If you fuss at a kid publicly, try to give them an *equally* public chance at redemption (or some other reminder that it’s all love) the SAME period. Call on them, joke with them, smile at them, etc Our brains are set up to remember how things end. It’s important to end well.
