It makes me realise how important literacy is. In those places and times where education has been especially denied to girls, women are doubly persecuted, by their treatment, and by the attempt to ensure they can never make a record of it that can be shared, and lasts.

As women like Laura were being subjected to various forms of persecution, they were keeping notes. People watching were keeping notes. So the next wave of uncomfortable reading for the history deniers is going to be more material like this hitting the permanent record.
