June 29, 1863: MG George Meade temporarily made his HQ in this hotel in Middleburg, MD before moving the AOP HQ onto the property owned by Peter Koons, which sat just south of Big Pipe Creek. Civil War Trails
After MG John Reynolds fell mortally wounded on the morning of July 1, 1863, his body was transported by ambulance to Union Bridge, MD. Then placed in a coffin and packed on ice, Reynolds made his final journey to Lancaster, PA where he was buried on July 4. Civil War Trails
