New today in CID: expert panel update on antibody therapy with COVID-19 convalescent plasma. Important for our post-monoclonal antibody moment. academic.oup.com/cid/advance-ar… Mike Thompson, MD, PhD, FASCO Michael Joyner Arturo Casadevall COVID-19 and Cancer Consortium (CCC19) Registry @wusm_pathology @WashUID #COVID19CP #COVID19

Follow up study of participants in COVID-19 Convalescent plasma RCT associates post-COVID (long covid) with increased IL-6 and notes reduced symptoms at day 90 for those treated with CCP in first 5 days. Consistent with CCP antiviral effect medrxiv.org/content/10.110… #COVID19CP

No need to break the ice when visiting with the warm and talented scientists and trainees at UW-Madison MMI. Fascinating work on copper handling by fungi in the Nancy Keller Lab. Stimulating discussions, hospitality…and a souvenir! On, Wisconsin! TheKellerLab

Good news: U.S. FDA extended the EUA for COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) until 11/7/2023. This is important because with the impending end of the emergency, EUAs could also end, and CCP is the only antibody based therapy for the immunocompromised. fda.gov/regulatory-inf…

Approximately 50% of the SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing activity in COVID-19 convalescent plasma comes from antibody (Ab)-mediated hydrolysis of the spike protein. Key to showing this was separating Ab catalysis from Ab-binding interference using temperature. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Can anybody help Maarten van Smeden find this (or more related examples)? The literature contains many examples where the term "prediction" or "predictor" is used in a misleading manner, though not often so dramatically.

Thoughtful commentary by Jeff Henderson MDPhD on the mechanism by which the early administration of COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) reduces post-COVID conditions: early reduction in inflammation may translate into reduced inflammation later. journals.asm.org/doi/full/10.11…
