I have used a Scofield KJV Bible since my ordination day as a 17-year-old pastor. It was a gift from my pastor. I have used a Scofield KJV Bible in secular college groups, preaching in churches of 32 different denominations and seminary chapels. It has served me well everywhere.

I doubt any of the Old Testament prophets or New Testament apostles had a pleasant style in their preaching. If anything, their style was hard-hitting truth, but thousands were saved. That works today. When I preach a simple hard-hitting sermon that’s true, sinners are saved.

Every part of a worship service is of vital importance, but the once commonly-used altar call, which is now being mocked by many preachers and used almost never by others, is the one place where a sudden manifestation of God’s work in changing people’s hearts is evidenced.

I just talked with a very wealthy businessman who was saved in a revival I led in North Myrtle Beach a few years ago. That service was the first time he had been to church since a lad. Someone invited him. Revivals still work! He now attends another church, and is now a deacon!

I never try in any way at all, like networking, to fill my preaching calendar with dates. God called me into full-time evangelism, so He keeps me busy full-time. By letting Him get the dates, I know when I get there for the first service that He will already be there.

Some people’s honesty is both refreshing and sobering at the same time. Many pastors are now saying that because of my age they must hurry up and book me before I’m gone. To that I say that the oldest active evangelist died at the age of 103, and I’m determined to beat that!

In Revelation 12 it is written Satan has deceived the whole world. Paul talks of another Jesus. What if the Jesus you are sincerely trusting to get you to heaven is not really the Jesus who is?

I miss Bible conferences of yesteryears….for a lot of reasons. I think celebrity preachers wearing tee shirts, faded jeans and $200 sneakers without socks promoting their latest books on modern prayers and hip sermons don’t connect with near as many believers as they think.

Although as an evangelist I always urge people to have a fervent commitment to their local church, we must never let even our local church take precedence over our commitment to Christ. If we do, the church becomes an idol as surely as that of a hand-crafted pagan god.

Life is brief and a preacher’s ministry is even briefer still. So, I would suggest that if a preacher really aspires to please God that he should keep his mind and heart locked on the cross and avoid the distraction of a seductive world toward sports, money and entertainment.

I just received an invitation to preach a revival at one of the nation’s great independent Baptist churches, Lively Stones Baptist Church in Pelham, NC. Pastor Michael Kent is one of the greatest men of God I’ve ever known in my entire ministry!!

It’s so very distressing to me that I find so few believers who indicate an abiding interest in having a growing intimacy with Christ and a gnawing hunger for God’s Word.

Today I could not find a place on my preaching calendar for a good pastor who invited me for sometime in this year of 2025. That’s always a bittersweet moment…

Just pondering a bit. I wonder what would happen if the pastors of all the evangelical churches of America really believed and preached on the power and work of the Holy Spirit on the same Sunday. Hmmm…I can’t remember the last time I heard an entire sermon on that theme.

I love all kinds of music styles in worship if the lyrics of songs are biblical. Today’s church music during worship services is pretty good, as is the preaching, but prayer almost doesn’t exist except for an opening prayer, an offertory prayer and a benediction. Does it matter?

Mark your calendar for revival week starting this Sunday, March 23-26, at the great Fellowship Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, KY, with Pastor Lynn Releford! I love being an evangelist and I love revival meetings!

Just looking at only a part of my calendar for the rest of 2025 and I was astonished to see 16 upcoming revival weeks, not counting single Sundays and conferences. Hmmm….I guess there are pastors who still believe in revivals in spite of what modern church gurus say.

The most camouflaged sin that has destroyed many churches is that of judgmental gossip. It covers itself in private conversations and in prayer groups with statements like “tell me more about him/her so I’ll know how to pray.”

Even in an era when revivals are not certainties any longer on most church calendars, I praise the lord that I have an upcoming stretch of 16 in 2025 and my preaching calendar for 2026 is also beginning to fill up. Sadly, on the flip side, full-time evangelists are now rare.

Ask your pastor if there is anyone with whom he has ill will but he has not sought reconciliation. If he refuses to directly answer your question, then I suggest that a man who chooses a grudge over grace has nothing you need to hear when he preaches.
