When 'All my friends have ADHD' does that not signal that it is a hysterically overused diagnosis? When all the 12 year old boys at a birthday party have been labeled as ADHD, does that not show we have a pandemic of labeling everyone with this?

An infant's brain forms 40,000 connections per second. Any theory of psychopathology that does not account for this phase of extra-ordinary human development is grossly deficient. Awais Aftab Jesus Ramirez-Bermudez

How did the first plover pick food out of a crocodile's teeth, and know it would not get eaten? How did the crocodile know it would be good to let a bird into its' mouth? How did that negotiation occur between two wildly divergent animals? Michael Levin Perry Marshall

The single best way to increase wellness in the workplace is to measure the amount of trust an employee has in their manager, and the company. Low trust on either dimension triples the risk of depression, even after accounting for 14 other variables.

The mind of the child is woven together by parents. An infant grows 40,000 connections per second in their brain. Who do they interact with during this stunning growth? They are looking into their parent's face, playing peek-a-boo, or crying as they need comfort.

We should rename 'emotional abuse' to be 'character attack'. The individual's emotions are not being abused, their self concept is attacked and demeaned with statements like 'You are so lazy and stupid. You are a failure.' These attacks on character result in emotional pain

1. In the 90ies, I came across a book about depression from a German psychiatrist basically saying that it is wrong and unethical to approach depression with psychotherapy or to blame parents etc., bc depression is a brain disorder and can be treated with medication.

Having guaranteed employment, housing, and medical care will have less of an impact on mental health than some people think. The Soviet Union had all those things in the 1970's. These resources are good, but other factors are more important in mental health. Like ACE's

A good apology has 4 parts. 1 Statement of responsibility 'I did a hurtful thing to you. 2 Recognition of impact, 'You are scared, angry, hurt by what I did. 3 Statement of guilt 'I feel bad for causing you pain. 4 Steps to change 'I will go to therapy/ take time out, etc.'

Therapy AI is a fool's errand. One client needed 3 years of therapy, before they could acknowledge their anger to their Dad. The next client stated it in their first session. What I said to the first client, was very different for the second. A LLM cannot capture this.

The brain (especially in childhood) is strongly shaped by our relationships with parents. Any study of brain differences needs to account for the person's interactions with their parents, and others, when they were young. Assess for ACE's.

When I sought help for crippling invasive thoughts, I was told I had a disease like any other. But I wasn’t able to recover until I understood the fallacy at the heart of mental healthcare theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

What was root cause of my client's mental health problems recently? Client 1, Alcoholic, emotionally abusive mother. 2. Alcoholic violent father. 3. Bullying from boss. 4. Emotionally abusive mother. Hey, I found the major cause for emotional pain that people are looking for.

Men, instead of spending $100,000 on a gargantuan black 4x4 in order to shore up your profound sense of inadequacy, how about you enter therapy, and sort yourself out? Lot cheaper and easier on gas in the long run. Plus, you are not killing the environment.

Reading Tronick, Feldman and Schore, on how the mother's failure/success at interacting with her infant and co-regulating her baby has such a huge impact on the baby's development later. Any theory of psychopathology has to account for this.

With the explosion of the number of people being diagnosed as having autism, are there any studies on the reliability of this diagnosis? What is the kappa coefficient? Or is this category so expansive, that a big portion of the population is swept into it?

In the early/mid 00’s, a number of highly regarded psychiatrists were in agreement: my wife was so severely mentally ill, she should not hope to have a career, to marry, to have children.

Rather, they told her, she should come to terms with reality, and lower her expectations

'Treatment Resistant Depression' is a very dangerous concept to mix with euthanasia for severe depression. Not responding to two pills does not mean treatment resistance. People do not even have to try psychotherapy to be labeled TRD.

From the perspective of a psychiatrist who sees people in their later years, many of whom have been treated for severe depression and other mental health diagnoses for decades, I have never seen a patient for whom this pessimistic warning would have turned out to be correct.
