The Creative Arts at Edge Hill are being cut - 12 out of 30 senior lecturing staff are being made redundant. Please sign this petition. Show that we are not just statistics. The Arts should be valued. Our teachers should be respected.

I keep returning to Chesterton’s view on such things, re smoking bans vel sim.: ‘I want my private physician to tell me whether this or that food will kill me. It is for my private philosopher to tell me whether I ought to be killed’.

I’m seeing some “free market” simps defending Nature’s 12k open access fees. Guess it’s time to bring this back around.

The Cass Review rejected around 50 studies (98%) submitted to it, but accepted studies not focused on trans people. It claims 24 year olds are children. It claims that toys children play with is determined by biology.

This report is anti-science and is for ideological zealots.

I wondered why Victorian literature rarely mentions solar eclipses, so looked up the dates - there were no eclipses visible from the UK between 1724 to the start of 1925. Lunar eclipses are far more common, so of course Thomas Hardy has something to say allpoetry.com/At-A-Lunar-Ecl….

Another reminder how women have been historically affected by drug policy and the ongoing legacy of punitive drug laws. We saw parallels in the 80s and 90s and the ‘crack epidemic’.

The core lesbophobic centre piece of this rhetoric, the entire debate, is framing lesbians as a community to be fought over as territory rather than as women with agency and desire independent of the desires imposed on them by the political order.

There is no evidence for any pagan springtime celebration having used rabbits and eggs in a symbolic manner.

Whenever anyone refers to this, they are actually referencing the 19th century habit of *imagining* a pagan precedent for a known secular or Christian tradition.

I've seen the 'no Protestant horror' do the rounds and I just assumed everyone knew that there is, in fact, lots of Protestant horror and oodles of Protestant Gothic.

I can give some examples if people are interested?

An excellent example of why philosophers love AI. Raises so many fun philosophical questions. But only if you avoid the truth: AI is not an 'artificial mind', but an invisible labor force of exploited human beings. If you confront that truth, AI raises much less fun questions…

Speaking of Old Man Yaoi, a few years ago I told a queer elder (70s) about it and he started tearing up and said something like:

“I didn’t know the young people cared [about our love]”

And “it’s just so good to know they’re thinking about us”

then I cried too, so there’s that.
