Wow, 1 in 4 US referral centres surveyed do not start any cooling (active or passive) for HIE and half use passive cooling. Only 1 in 4 therefore getting optimal treatment before transport team arrive. Of course, survey studies have limitations but these data have surprised me.

I prefer the positive take with 90% never admitted. Important to realise the baby with multiple challenges is on a life journey and the discharge from NICU is the first step and return for further intensive care inevitable for some, we aim to minimise and counsell appropriately.

Great to see this being recognised on the @bapm platform. Great work from East Midlands Neonatal ODN and Dr Anita Durso and team with pilot funding from NIHR HRC in Paediatrics and Child Health . Parental mental wellbeing is crucial to support outcome of infant.
