Six years ago, we lost our friend, Robert Snyder Beach, to complications of a life with Hep C. Bobbo was a good man who struggled with a disease which, at that time, had a cure too costly for him to afford. Homeless people don't have to die from Hep C anymore. No one does.

Chinatown had a "clean up" last week - a joint effort of City Public Works and Salinas Police Department. "Clean ups" are necessary, as we see TONS of unsanitary garbage. Salinas PD does a great job of keeping the process safe and respecting those that this affects the most.

It's hard for our community to understand why "sweeps" are necessary. This shows Public Works working to load the discards left behind by our dear guests and clients as they take what means most to them with them to a different location. Imagine living with all of this everyday.

Eleven students from Western Oregon University (Go Wolves!) spent their Spring Break with us in Dorothy's Kitchen! They were such a fun group and inspired us to serve with exceptional spirit. Their university motto is "Together We Succeed"! #FeedingAmerica #volunteer #nonprofit

Moon Gate Plaza, our long-anticipated 88 units of low-income housing has now risen above the roof line of the adjacent Buddhist Temple of Salinas. When finished, the design of Moon Gate will complement the design of the Buddhist Temple. #ChinatownSalinas #StreetsToHomes

The Big Sur Marathon ran recently, and look at the goodies that we received for a health breakfast - for 200 Dorothy's Kitchen clients! The gift was so abundant that it lasted for nearly three meals. Everyone got as much fruit, healthy muffins and protein bars as they wanted!

We are in need of 8oz coffee cups and 12 oz soup bowls. We cannot use soup "plates" because they won't fit in our sterilizer, same for the oversize coffee mugs. However, we would be most grateful for cups and bowls. We are seeing much higher numbers of hungry people these days.
