Today Kate Forbes voted FOR Stage 1 of the Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) bill. Humza Yousaf was absent. Just as he was for the final vote on equal marriage. So tell me again why Kate Forbes is being is vilified for her faith…

Anointing Swinney is equivalent of the Tories turning to William Hague after the GE. A big hitter, sure, but a damning insight into lack of faith in current ministers & talent in SNP more generally. FM Anas Sarwar becomes more plausible - if not likely - with each passing day.

The rush from the 'men in grey kilts' to crown John Swinney even before other contenders have thrown their hats in to the ring can only mean one thing. They want continuity - not for the sake of Scotland or SNP but simply to keep their own overpaid jobs and careers on track.

John Swinney is hugely respected across our party but the lesson of the last year is that the SNP needs a complete reset. We must go forward not backwards. Kate was right when she said that continuity would not cut it. The next leader must deliver change.

As Humza, who should be thanked for his service, will remain FM until we have a new leader there is no need for an unseemly rush by the (old) boys club to stitch up the succession. The leader of the SNP should be chosen by our members not by men in grey suits

I’m sorry, I appreciate that the Scottish Parliament votes for FMs. But there comes a time when we can’t have a tiny minority of 129 people deciding who the FM is after various post holders have resigned. We need a General Election.
