SPSFC3 draws to a close and crowns and new winner!

Well, this is awesome. Friend sent me first Debunked public library sighting:)

Vellum issued an update allowing footnotes at the bottom of the page instead of at the end of chapters! YES! Great news for my readers who requested I format it that way (believe me, I desperately wanted to). Bring on the footnotepocalypse.

Authors, if you're on the fence about entering SPSFC or SPFBO, I encourage you to go for it. It's a free opportunity to get your work in front of readers who love fantasy and sci-fi. Take a chance on yourself.

My ten year old, reading something I wrote: "Dad, what does 'they traversed the deck' mean?" Me: "They crossed the deck." Kid: "Why didn't you just write that?" Sticks and stones may break my bones, but my kid's words will haunt my waking hours.

Many reviews say Debunked is "a lot", inferring that plot threads and worldbuilding constantly weave (I guess?). Its sequel shows no chill. I put the plot on a diet and it got hangry, demanding more POVs, more words, and ALL THE WORLDBUILDING! It's screaming for dragons now.

Disney Afternoon’s “Tale Spin” cartoon was my favorite show as a kid (anyone who has read “Debunked” might recognize cloudwhipping). Got to dive a sunken Catalina flying boat like Baloo’s plane yesterday. Dream come true! Adventures like this inspire me.

My daughter crocheted Skhaar the Annihilator from my books. I have officially peaked as both an author and dad.

Currently 8 miles off Huahine on my 4 am watch shift. Wind is gusting 30 knots in a squall and I’m trying to slow boat down to arrive after dawn. Just a handkerchief of a headsail up. Honestly, not super fun. But this kind of experience helps me write airships.

Slowly but surely, I’m illustrating the Debunked Field Manual (and Bathroom Companion) Creature Guide. Vicious Malarks are one of my favorite Terravenum creatures. I love the idea of barely tamed messenger birds that would just as soon attack the recipient as deliver a message.

This instrument would have careened my life in an entirely non-clarinet direction.
