Late to the "party."

Hiya. I've largely sat out Professor social media, for a variety of reasons. But I'm surfacing because I recognize acutely that we all need to be talking to each other all the time, organizing resistance to the end of higher ed in the U.S. (Except rn, because class prep.)

Today's rallying cry: every single thing about annual performance review is tenure busting. Let's all revise our faculty handbooks to get rid of it, or at least make the process formative not evaluative and kept entirely within our departments/programs.

At my university, admin doesn't even have to threaten to cut more in response to protests. Faculty already have internalized that and self-censor accordingly.

To both the Mayor of NYC and The Guardian, this is not an analogy. It's the deliberate criminalization of the faculty and academic freedom and normalization of them as such.
