Over the years, I’ve witnessed some truly outstanding organisations—people who go above and beyond to protect children and young people in our care system. Their dedication deserves recognition. But we must also speak the truth about the failures—the ones we don’t want to see or

Prof. Des O'Neill has said that there is no effective control over how private nursing homes operate. This is a serious indictment of the governments privatisation of the care of older people but also applies to the care of vulnerable children #bettergovernment #childrenincare

It was interesting to fly back from Spain yesterday to find that the Aerlingus flight ran out of food, my tea and coffee in Dublin Airport cost €3 more than in Malaga airport, the Green bus had no air conditioning and a tourist was snapped at when she queried this!

The government accepts that state ownership of IPAS centres represents better value for money - does this argument not also apply to state care of children and older people??! #bettergovernment #acaringstate

The Minister must quickly take control of his brief. The priority must now be on implementing safeguarding legislation with mandatory reporting & creating a fit-for-purpose complaints system that upholds the human rights of people in care. Older people are full human beings

Cyclists are Gods in the U.K. Laws do not apply to them, courts are afraid of them, and politicians worship them. And the general public unfortunately have to put up with them.

Mr Ó Broin has cited our “over-reliance on private developments” as evidence of failure to reform housing delivery.  The over-reliance on private provision and lack of state provision has also led to the crisis in nursing home care and children's residential care

The mayor of Barcelona, recently declared. “We’re running the risk of having the working and middle classes conclude that their democracies are incapable of solving the housing crisis". I think the Irish people may have reached that conclusion #bettergovernment

In Ireland, nearly half of all units delivered since 2017 were purchased by investment funds.(Guardian). The governments answer - let's make apartments smaller, diminish quality of life for people even further and make institutions even richer!

'The government will "try" to compel religious orders to pay redress to victims of historic sex abuse in schools, Minister for Education Helen McEntee has said'. I think the 'try' serves the same function as 'May' in a lot of government legislation! #bettergovernment
