Now out on bioRxiv: #cryoEM structures of #amyloidBeta42 filaments from #Alzheimers and other diseases. By the wonderful Yang Yang, Diana Arseni & wenjuanzhang et al, together with B. Ghetti, Benjamin Ryskeldi-Falcon & Michel Goedert. πŸ₯³ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Well this was unexpected! We found that TDP-43 forms heteromeric amyloid filaments with a second protein, annexin A11, in the neurodegenerative disease FTLD-TDP Type C. Read the preprint here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

The fantastic Diana Arseni used cryo-EM (296,660 images!) to determine the structures of filaments from the brains of individuals with FTLD-TDP Type C, revealing a specific filament fold comprised of two discrete protein chains.

My favourite discovery ever has just come online. Can I please tell you about some seriously wacky molecular biology? The story starts with a reverse transcriptase that SOMEHOW defends bacteria from viruses. (πŸ‘‡ I recommend sound ON for the video 🎹) 1/
