Regaining our sovereignty - a world power once again (from the New York Times): Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, dismissed his talks with his British counterpart as a conversation of a “mute person with a deaf person”.

The government has announced that free parking for NHS staff will end after the pandemic. 😫 RT if you think that all NHS staff should be entitled to free parking at their place of work! ❤️

Wars can only be finished by negotiation. Which requires education. But there only ever seems to be limitless funding for the former.

‘Brazilian footballers like to dance when they score’, says sports columnist Julio Gomes. Has he seen Pele’s modest, joyful and totally appropriate celebrations?

Thread #1 of 3 - Air Canada travel nightmare. A trip to the US in June 2024 to celebrate my son’s Japanese wedding with a total of 13 people from Japan, including 3 children under 10 - all inexperienced travellers. Flights booked on Air Canada, Tokyo-Toronto-Boston return.

#2 No advice on visas being needed to transit Canada. At airport, visa system was down, so they missed their flights, so the group had to book completely new (one-way) flights. Air Canada then cancelled ALL their remaining flights with NO NOTICE given.

#3 So, no flights back to Japan from Boston when they arrived to check in at the end of the trip. The group had to book more new one-way flights - again and at a premium in order to get home.

#4 No Air Canada seats available on their original return flights - clearly sold twice, once to them, once to other people. Not all Air Canada’s fault, but does this sound fair to you? No offer of compensation at airport.

#5 The cost for all the extra tickets: $32,448. What price a little compassion in acknowledgment of the odious practice of cancelling paid flights with no warning - then re-selling them to other travellers?

“It should come as no surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working people would find that the working class has abandoned them”. Bernie Sanders puts his finger on the election débâcle.
