A few ideas: 1. Give up the idea that you'll ever change someone's mind. Once you let go of this, you'll have a lot more headspace to hear them out versus just respond with your points. 2. If your friend is laying out their beliefs, ask questions. Good questions. Sincere

This is true. It’s why I recommend people volunteer and participate with groups like Braver Angels. It is the easier thing you can do to engage with people across the divide.
