Smokey Bear AND Timmy and Lassie?! The USDA Forest Service broke out the starpower for this campaign, unfortunately the real photograph this drawing was based on and referenced in our correspondence is not in our files. After enjoying that #ArchivesCampfire, be sure to put it out!

"Ah, camping in the great outdoors! Where it's not...crowded...and away from, uh...everyone else. Hey, you have any extra ice over there?" This #ArchivesCampfire shot was taken at WI's Devil's Lake State Park and comes from an National Park Service report on continental glaciation.

Can’t imagine anywhere else you’d see Roosevelt as “honorary president” and Hoover as “honorary vice president,” outside this 1942 Camp Fire Girls #LetterheadOfTheWeek! For the #ArchivesCampfire #ArchivesHashtagParty, this letter comes from our Blackfeet Agency holdings.

Well pardners, it’s been a long dusty day wrangling records for the #ArchivesCampfire #ArchivesHashtagParty. After ranging around the bays all day our archivists like to tend to a Hollinger box campfire ring, trusty library cart hobbled up alongside…well, until next month y’all!

“The loss of a loved one is beyond man’s repairing…” So Louis Reevis (Blackfeet) was told when he was given his son’s posthumous Purple Heart. Blackfeet men were issued at least 21 of the medals, 10 posthumously, and today on #PurpleHeartDay we remember their sacrifices.

Today is the 108th anniversary of the creation of Capulin Volcano NM, an extinct cinder cone volcano from which atop you can see five states! Here we see it depicted in our General Land Office plat maps, with the national monument designation later added.

Today would have been the 95th birthday of Alvis Edgar "Buck" Owens Jr.! In this '70 photo from our Fitzsimons Army Hospital files we see Owens with Ed Sullivan, who had performed at both Fitzsimons and San Antonio’s Brooks Army Hospital, seen here, for an Easter TV special.

One of our staff archivists is very happy today is the first day of school for Denver Public Schools! This photo was sent to the Jicarilla Indian Agency in a 1931 bus bid from Denver's Timpte Brothers Company and is today found in our holdings. Here's to another great school year!

Did I get a haircut? No, I got them all cut! Don’t worry, we have lots more gems like that in our dad-a-base! But the new cadet in this 1959 photo from our U.S. Air Force Academy holdings doesn’t seem to find anything fun in getting his hair sheared off!

We’re flowing right into today’s #ArchivesHashtagParty #ArchivesPatterns with these pages from a pattern catalog found in our holdings! Filed in 1917 here in Denver, a civil case pitted the Royal Pattern Company’s copyrights against the local Neusteters Women's Apparel Company.

Here is a gorgeous tapestry to share for today’s #ArchivesHashtagParty #ArchivesPatterns. Entitled “Petroglyphs,” it was created by Frank and Keith Austin (Navajo) and this image was published in a presentation book found in our Indian Arts and Crafts Board holdings.

What kind of dam pattern is this?! For an out of the box approach to the #ArchivesHashtagParty #ArchivesPatterns, from our Bureau of Reclamation holdings here we see some of the interlocking five foot high blocks being poured that together form the massive Hoover Dam!

To be honest, the first thing we thought of when told about the #ArchivesPatterns #ArchivesHashtagParty was the world famous Navajo rugs! We decided to showcase a massive one shown at the Southern Navajo Agency in 1933.
