Early AI Art is the only corner of AI art that can’t be replicated. The aesthetic is imperfect. The mint dates are fixed. The creators were few. It’s this combination of scarcity and significance that makes institutions pay attention.

One could add that those creators were also a diverse crowd, from academia (e.g Elman Mansimov), big tech (e.g Alex Mordvintsev), art field (e.g Atay Ilgun), quants (our very own Pete!). No one had a clear intention to be commercially successful - pure tinkering, exploring...
