I pose this question in good faith in hopes of having a productive discussion regarding student loan forgiveness. What’s one benefit of cancelling student debt? What’s one detriment of cancelling student debt? Please refrain from answering one and saying “none” for the other.

I have 3 problems limiting a productive discussion: 1) I have a small audience, so not enough people see this. 2) People are afraid to speak out one way or the other. 3) People are unwilling to cede one thing that might be valid for the side of the argument they don't support.

Unrelated sports tweet. Throwing a baseball intentionally near a guy’s head is about the most disgraceful thing I can imagine. You could literally kill someone because one of their teammates made you mad. Terrible part of the sport. Accidents do happen, but most of them aren’t.

On an individual level, I agree. So, for you which was it? We ended up more than $500k in student loan debt at one point and still maintain it was a good investment for us.

Putting cash toward a 0.59% interest loan in 11/2021 is looking not so dumb now. Alternative destination was VTSAX and would currently be a 12% loss. Don't underestimate a guaranteed return.

My wife is a dentist and my father is a police officer. Both jobs where next to no one is happy to see them until they need them. It’s amazing how much hate can be directed at a profession. Thanks to all who do these jobs well and put up with the constant negativity.

Why would you spend time with your kids? That’s time you could be: Side hustling Learning a new skill Blah blah blah This is how some of you sound. Sometimes the best use of your time is to… enjoy yourself. Live a little. Spend time with those you love. Watch a show even.

This week we have dance recital rehearsal, soccer practice on different days for different kids, baseball practice and finally a pair of soccer games to close out the week. It’s busy and stressful. Probably sounds dreadful to some, but I’m grateful for every minute.

It is the start of Year 4 of the Slow FI chapters of our life. I still deal with money, but we haven’t let it drive hardly any of our decision making in years. It’s amazing how fast a relationship with something like money can transform in a relatively short amount of time.
