🚨 Today we have published a new report, based on:

📊 Extensive new data analysis about child poverty and its impacts in – and on – our region

🗨️ Conversations with over 150 North East organisations, as well as parents, carers and young people, over the best part of a year 🧵

High quality teaching of sex & relationships education is also key as are school nurses.

We have 35% fewer school nurses than we did 10 years ago, making it harder for children to access the services they need.

Getting this right is so important.

I'm deeply concerned about the rise in STIs among young people. We need to get to grips with the problem now.

I told @commonswomequ that Ofsted need to prioritise PHSE, so that young people know how to look after themselves and aren't learning about relationships through TikTok.

The school census provides a great opportunity to understand much more about young carers' experiences at school including their attendance/attainment - but this can only happen if schools are recording who their young carers are. Please RT/share the letter with heads/schools.
